Supernovae: The Outliers

12 - 16 September 2016

Claes Fransson, Saurabh Jha, Kate Maguire, Stan Woosley

Local organisation: MIAPP info(at)munich-iapp.de

Conference fee: 75 €

In recent years, transient surveys have dramatically increased the discovery rate of transients that fall outside the standard supernova classification scheme. This topical workshop will focus on these peculiar and unexpected events. During this workshop that closes the four-week programme, ’The Physics of Supernovae’, we will attempt to bridge the gap between theory and observations of these unusual transients, while also developing strategies to exploit next-generation transient surveys. Topics to be covered include:

  • Ultra-luminous supernovae
  • Peculiar white dwarf supernovae
  • 'Faint & fast’ supernovae
  • Gamma-ray burst supernovae
  • Pre-supernova mass loss
  • First-generation supernovae
  • Tidal disruption events

A conference dinner (included) is planned on the evening of September, 15th.

The conference organisers and MIAPP are dedicated to providing a respectful, inclusive and harassment-free workshop experience for all participants
