Week 1

Towards the big picture: fundamental parameters of stars (abundances, ages, mass, multiplicity..)

  • Quality = Quantity? How accurately and precisely can we determine fundamental stellar parameters?
  • What is the accuracy of stellar parameters that is needed to address standing problems in studies of exoplanets, stellar populations, galaxies?

Week 2

Towards new generation of physical models of stellar atmospheres, stellar structure and evolution:

  • What are the key unknowns in our understanding of stellar structure and evolution?
  • Which new theoretical approaches could be used in conjunction with the data to advance stellar modelling?
  • How can we reduce our dependence on calibrations to observations, in order to make stellar models more predictive?
  • Beyond the classical physics: MHD, binary evolution, diffusion, mixing

Week 3

Towards new empirical constraints of stellar structure - time-domain photometry, spectroscopy, astrometry:

  • How do we combine the information from various types of surveys (asteroseismic, spectroscopic, interferometric, astrometric) to learn about stellar physics?
  • What are best mathematical and physical methods to extract information from noisy data?

Week 4

Towards the big picture: fundamental parameters of stars

  • What are the major challenges across other fields of astrophysics that would benefit from improvement of stellar models?
  • Synergies between different observational surveys and their cross-disciplinary impact
