Time to focus on science

MIAPP programs contrast from ordinary conferences in terms of length, interaction and time to work.

A MIAPP program lasts four weeks. It is organized by a group of scientists renowned for the topic of the program. Programs feature topics in astro-, particle and nuclear physics and connected disciplines.

Promoting out-of-the-box thinking

The schedule typically consists of regular seminars, but leaves much time for collaborations and discussions between the participants in a casual, relaxed atmosphere.

Every participant is provided with a fully equipped office space in the MIAPP building or the adjacent Cluster building.

With this setup MIAPP creates a creative enivronment, where participants can present their own work, discuss new aspects and work on scientific questions while being away from their daily commitments. Key to the success of this concept is that all participants stay for an extended period of time, i.e. at least two weeks.

The Garching Research Campus with its numerous research institutions as well as its proximity to the city of Munich and the Bavarian Alps offers an inspiring environment.

More Facts about MIAPP programs

  • Coordinated by three to five coordinators (experts in the field of the program focus)
  • Administrative organization by the MIAPP team
  • Coordinators outline the details of the program and choose the participants for the program
  • Approx. 60-70 participants per program (45 at any given time)
  • Every participant gets a desk space with stationery
  • Typically 1-2 seminars/day or perhaps only a few per week
  • Much time for collaborative work
  • Social events to promote networking and collaborations

Application for participation is open - please select a program from the menu on the right to proceed to the application form.

Short topical workshops

MIAPP also organizes short specialized topical workshops embedded into the  long-term programs. Registration for topical workshops is separate from the participation in a MIAPP program [topical workshops 2020]. Note that MIAPP does not cover a per diem for participants of topical workshops who are not simultaneously registered for a long-term program.

Proposals for MIAPP programs welcome!

Want to organize a program at MIAPP? We look very much forward to receive interesting proposals. Instructions for preparing proposals can be found here.

Think that we should organize a program in a certain field? We are grateful for every hint. Please send us an e-mail ideally together with a person to contact.
