Automated, Resummed and Effective: Precision Computations for the LHC and Beyond

24 July–18 August 2017
T. Becher, M. Beneke, R. Frederix, K. Melnikov, M. D. Schwartz

Precise predictions for collider processes are crucial to interpret the results from the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN. The goal of this programme is to bring together experts from different communities in precision collider physics (diagrammatic resummation vs. effective field theory, automated numerical computations vs. analytic approaches, etc.) to discuss the latest advances in jet physics, higher-order computations and resummation.

The key topics to be addressed during the programme  are

•    Two-loop computations

•    Real radiation at NNLO

•    EW corrections

•    Merging and matching

•    Automated higher-log resummation

•    Resummations for jet processes and jet substructure

•    Non-perturbative effects: underlying event and the role of Glauber gluons

•    Next-to-eikonal effects

This programme will stimulate the exchange of ideas and the development of new methods, and foster collaboration among experts on different aspects of hadronic collisions.   We plan to put emphasis on more exclusive observables, which require resummations and a treatment of non-perturbative effects, in the first half of the programme and on more inclusive quantities, for which fixed-order computations are adequate, in the second half. However, we want to ensure that a constructive dialogue between different approaches to the description of hard scattering processes at the LHC is maintained throughout the programme and encourage prospective participants to apply for stays that extend beyond their natural "comfort zone".

The programme will be followed by the programme "Mathematics and Physics of Scattering Amplitudes". If you are planning a consecutive stay in both programmes, please register for both separately. The two week minimum participation then applies to your combined stay.
